Mike Cerino, Head Coach- Limestone College

After a successful 14-2 season in his first year back at Limestone, Head Coach Mike Cerino returns to the Saints sidelines with great expectations for 2008.  In one year, Cerino has brought Limestone Lacrosse back into the limelight as one of Division II’s elite teams.

Cerino’s tenure at Limestone has been one of tremendous achievement.  Founding the program in 1990, Cerino built the Saints into a premier team, exemplified in 2000 with a NCAA Division II National Championship. During this 11 year period, he went 80-56 (.588) winning three conference championships and received the honor of being named Deep South Coach of the year in both 1994 and 1998.  Additionally, the team earned a top-10 national ranking in the final Division II poll on eight occasions.  Following the 2000 season, Cerino was named Street and Smith’s College Lacrosse USA Division II Coach of the Year.  He is also a two-time recipient of the Jim "Ace" Adams National Sportsmanship Award from the National Intercollegiate Lacrosse Officials Association.
At the conclusion on the 2000 season Cerino stepped down at Limestone College to take a faculty and varsity head coaching position at Charlotte Latin School in Charlotte, NC.  In December of 2001, Cerino was named the Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach and Assistant Professor of Physical Education at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA.  Over the course of his five years in Lexington, Cerino compiled a record of 53-24 (.688), third all-time in the history of the program.  During this stretch, Washington and Lee received two NCAA tournament berths in 2002 and 2004. Cerino was also named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2004. 

Cerino currently serves on the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Board of Directors and was also selected to be a presenter at the 2006 IMLCA Clinic. Cerino has also served on the USILA Division III All-America Committee, the National Ranking Committee and the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Executive Committee. During his 17 year coaching career, Cerino has mentored 44 All-Americans.  In 1996, he was chosen by his peers to be the coach for the South team in the 53rd Annual Division I North/South Classic. 

After an outstanding playing career at Pfeiffer University, Cerino earned his bachelor of science in economics in 1988. He also earned a master’s degree in physical education from Gardner-Webb University in 1996.

Cerino was recently named the College’s Director of Athletics. He becomes the fifth Director of Athletics in the history of the Saints Athletics. Cerino had served as Senior Associate Athletics Director since the summer of 2006.
 

Chris Barrett, Assistant Coach-- Limestone College

Chris Barrett enters into his eighth year as a Saint and his fourth year as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.  Barrett has appeared in five NCAA national championships and seven straight NCAA Semifinals as a player and coach. He was a member of the 2002 Championship team and a captain and All-Conference player as a senior in 2004.

During his tenure on staff, Barrett has served as an offensive assistant working closely with the midfield position.  The Saints have averaged over 200 goals a season over the three years Barrett has been on staff. He has also worked with 8 All-Americans in three seasons.  In addition to coaching, Barrett serves as an instructor in the Physical Education Department.

Barrett earned his bachelor of arts in physical education from Limestone College in 2004.
 

Andrew Delaney, Assistant Coach-- Limestone College

Andrew Delaney is in his first season as assistant men’s lacrosse coach for the Limestone College. His primary responsibility will be to coordinate the Saints defensive personnel, as well as work with the team’s face-off specialists. Delaney comes to Limestone from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va., where he was an assistant coach from 2004-2007.

While in Lexington, Delaney worked with Washington and Lee’s defensive unit and face-off specialists. During his three years the Generals’ defense was one of the top in the country and were able to hold opponents to 16.9 conversion percentage on man-up opportunities in 2007. He also served as an instructor in the Physical Education Department.

Prior to joining the staff at Washington and Lee, he was an assistant lacrosse coach and assistant dean of students at Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio. Delaney received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Franklin & Marshall College. He was a four-year letter-winner for the Diplomats lacrosse team and helped lead the squad to the NCAA Quarterfinals his senior year.

Delaney has also served as the co-director for the Future Stars 160 camp and has worked at other elite camps such as the Advantage Lacrosse Camps and Top Star Lacrosse Camps.
 

Jeremy DaRin, Assistant Coach- Limestone College

Jeremy DaRin is in his first season with Limestone College.  He brings a wide array of knowledge and experience to the Limestone staff. DaRin’s primary responsibility will be working with the Saints offense, EMO and will also mentor the goaltenders. 

Prior to coming to Gaffney, DaRin was an assistant coach for the Syracuse University Orange.  While at SU, DaRin worked with the goaltenders, including third-year starter Peter Coluccini. He also served as an assistant to Roy Simmons III working with the Orange defenders and man-down units.

DaRin was previously employed by Oswego State University, where he wore many hats, serving as head assistant men’s lacrosse coach, sports information director, and adjunct professor of health and wellness management. In his role as head assistant lacrosse coach, DaRin was in charge of all offensive and goalie personnel, as well as rebuilding Oswego State’s recruiting base.

Prior to being hired at Oswego, DaRin held the position of head assistant men’s lacrosse coach and professor of health and physical education at Oneonta State College from 2001-04. He coordinated offensive personnel and extra-man situations at Oneonta and his squad led the nation in scoring and man-up percentage for the majority of the 2002 NCAA Division III season. In addition, goalkeeper Michael Louer earned All-America honors three times under DaRin’s tutelage.

He got his start in collegiate coaching in 2000 when Onondaga Community College hired him as its head men’s lacrosse coach. He was responsible for re-establishing an OCC program that was dormant for nine years before he arrived. He quickly turned things around by guiding the team to the Mid-State Conference Championship and the school’s first Region III playoff bid after just two years of work. For his efforts, he was named Mid-State Conference Coach of the Year in 2001.

DaRin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in health promotion from Coastal Carolina University in 1999. At Coastal Carolina, he served as vice president of the school’s lacrosse club.
 

Marty Ward , Student Assistant Coach- Limestone College

Two-time All-American Marty Ward joins the Saints coaching staff after a remarkable four year campaign in the goal for Limestone. He concluded his career with an outstanding senior season, finishing with a 14-2 record as the starter. 

In 2007, Ward recorded career-highs with 178 saves and 35 ground balls. He had an 8.17 GAA and posted a save percentage of .599, ranking him among the top ten nationally in goals against average and save percentage for the season.  He was named CVAC Defensive Player of the Week on two occasions, and earned First Team All-Conference, CVAC Co-Player of the Year and All-American honors in 2007.  Ward will work primarily with the goaltenders and assist with the defense.
